HyunJoo Lee

HyunJoo was born in Seoul, South Korea. When she was two years old her family moved to San Jose, California and she lived in the US for four years, moving back to Korea at the age of six. Ever since she was little she has always been interested in drawing and making art. This led her to attend undergraduate school at Seoul University, receiving a degree in Ceramics. To further her studies, HyunJoo decided to apply to the graduate program at RISD and is currently working towards a graduate degree in architecture.

She feels that the experience of making a physical object in ceramics is very satisfying while in architecture there is a lot of conceptual designing. The reason Hyun Joo chose to pursue architecture is because it focuses on the interaction between people whereas ceramics is a more individual art form. She hopes in the future to work in the US and in other parts of the world helping people through architectural innovation. In her spare time Hyun Joo likes to work on jig saw puzzles, preferably ones that do not depict abstract art, which are hard to figure out.

Her favorite food is Kimchi jigae, a spicy soup whose main ingredient is Kimchi (spicy pickled cabbage) and it is eaten with rice.
